Reading more can improve your English

English is just a language. It has nothing to do with knowledge level. In Indian society, after the British rule English has become a language of pride. It is also true that Britishers ruled most parts of the world and it was broadly used as official language then. Time changed but the mentality of people remained same. So, as per now we cannot oppose the importance of English. This language is broadly used worldwide. Proficiency in English may lead us towards growth in career, we can enhance our reach.

English is easy - People those who live in English environment can easily grasp and easily learn English but those who are from Indian rural areas or live out of English society, it becomes them hard to learn English. Now, in the era of internet most of content available on internet is in English. Everyone is somehow associated with English. There are many ways to improve English but in this article I'm going to share some tips for average Indian student who can learn speaking and writing English proficient by his own.

Following are the steps to be followed to improve English -

1. Start with zero. Means we need to understand the basics of English. We should treat it as just a language, not a life.
2. Start reading books, articles over internet. When we read, we not only grasp the content but we also resemble in our mind. We can use dictionary at first, but can drop using vocabulary later. We should try to understand the story and assume the meaning of words.
3. Writing the story what we read. It can help us recall the things what we understood. It will help us improving our grammatical mistakes gradually.
4. Try to speak English. Now, you will find that speaking in English is kinda difficult than writing or understanding English while reading. It is only because we don't have regular practice. But as time passes, you keep reading more books, repetitively, more articles over internet, it will help you feel more comfort while speaking in public.

So, we should keep in mind that reading more and more helps us improving knowledge. More knowledge we have, more content we will have to talk. If we have to deliver a speech on a particular topic then we can go through many articles, and these articles may help us recall some vital points while we speak. Reading more not only improves our English but it also helps us getting rid of hesitation. We can read loud in a room or outdoor, also we can speak or read loud in front of mirror to improve our fear level speaking in public.

Group discussion is also a good thing. You can make your friends' group over internet (Whatsapp, Facebook, etc) and start chatting with them. Initially chatting/texting may help you improving English, later you can try speaking or talking over phone calls in your group. While reading interesting books you may find some words that can be used in daily life. Like some words what we use in daily life, can be replaced with English words. It will help us improving our English vocabulary.

Don't ever think that your are reading to learn English. You should focus on learning in English. While reading or learning English you should not only focus to read English grammar books or English related textbooks, rather you should try to read books in English medium. You can read comics, cartoons in English, religious books, newspaper, jokes, computer, books of different standards. Reading different books in English medium will lead interest in you. You can pickup some subjects and share that with your group members/friends and start discussing.

Another part is mock drill. You with your friend circle can conduct debates, group discussions, speech delivering, interviews, or one to one usual talk. But always remember that these should be based on some fruitful study. Before delivering speech on any topic we should be aware of what we are discussing or what we are talking. Conclusive, only reading makes us eligible to get proficiency in any language. Watching moving, videos, seminars, speech in that language comes later.

So what are you waiting for? Start reading more and more books, articles in English. Follow the above methods and see the positive result within months. Once you see improvement, don't stop but always keep learning.

Introduction of Tense & Basic English

English is very important subject. It is a language that is used globally verbal and non- verbal. A student generally starts learning English from his childhood and keeps learning through his life for personality grooming, career aspects. A research says that a person who is familiar with English generally earns 23% more than those who are not so convenient with English.
Every language has two modes of presenting itself : first one is spoken while other is written. English is the most spoken language in the world in terms of native and non native speakers. But mandarin is on the top in context of only native speakers. Hindi is on the third rank ๐Ÿ….

So today we are going to talk about English language and also will understand the meaning of tense. In upcoming posts we will learn tense and grammar in details but today it's only an introductory article. Since a language is a means of communication and when it is written then we have to follow some protocols and these protocols are called grammar.

English has also it's grammar and we denote time with tense. Tense is used in each and every sentences whether that is written in context of present, past or future. So there are absolutely three forms of tense. The first one is present, second past and last one is future tense.

For example if I say, I'm typing,  it means am telling you something, what time you are considering is making a sense of tense. Actually tense is used in both written and verbal context but it's important when it is written. Because government and official works are done on written documents. So in verbal communication grammar is not that much important but in written it is.

So in upcoming articles we will be discussing about English grammar and also will learn tense and other concepts of English grammar like models, past of speech, articles, determiners etc. So stay tuned with us, and keep learning.

HOW TO WRITE A WELL PRECIS : KEY POINTS FOR VARIOUS COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS

Well, as all we know that precis is "the expression, in condensed terms, of the principal contents of any piece of writing. In summarizer's own words it sets forth briefly the central idea of the original, generally understood to be an orderly condensation that preserves the main though organisation and tone of the original."
How to write precis in english

HOW TO SET ABOUT WRITING A PRECIS
  • You should read the passage carefully two or three times, until you have a clear idea of its general purport. Some people say the exact opposite of what they mean. They do so when they are making use of irony. Great importance should be attached too this, for until the gist of the passage is clearly grasped, it is useless to begin writing down the abstract.
  • When you are satisfied about the main idea, consider the passage in detail. On careful reading you will find that the argument generally resolves itself into certain well-defined sections. Observe carefully the connections between them and write down a suitable heading for each section.
  • Note down the important points and number them at the side. Otherwise you may miss something important. When all the points are numbered, go through them and strike out which are really not essential to the meaning. You may find that there are repetition or what are called redundant expressions. You may find illustrations which are not necessary to the meaning. Or you may find that there are stylistic effects, such as exaggeration or expansion or bombast or lack of restraint, which have to be removed.
  • No additional matter should be inserted by way of personal comment or historical explanation.
  • All superfluous details such as long quotations or lengthy enumerations, added merely to illustrate the argument, must be omitted.
  • When the process of selection and elimination is completed, proceed to weave the various ideas into a concise and lucid narrative. To do this effectively requires considerable experience in the use of felicitous and comprehensive words.
  • Now you also see whether the points are arranged in the best possible way in the passage before you. For it is the arrangement which gives point or emphasis to what you want to say.
  • Before you begin to write you must remember that your are going to translate the ideas and the spirit. Every writer has his own style and your own style too is different from that of the writer of the passage. You will be tempted to reproduce the style as well as the matter but if you do reproduce the whole phrase in your precis, you are not likely to score high marks.
  • Further, your precis will not be lucid unless the principle of continuity is observed. It is not sufficient that the sentences should express the ideas of different sections as briefly as possible, but they must also follow each other in logical sequence, and welded together by means of suitable connectives into a vigorous and organic whole.
  • In the competitive examinations, the incidents of the passage given for making a precis refer to the past and therefore, the past tense should be used throughout. It is advisable to use third person unless it is found that the form of the original extract does not admit of its being converted into indirect speech.
  • A precis is always in indirect speech except in very rare cases where it is necessary to incorporate a few words in the precis in their original form so that the meaning is not distorted.
  • Finally, the cardinal requirements of a good precis may be summed up in three words: clarity, coherence and brevity.

TITLE OF PRECIS
The title of a precis should give the central idea of the precis. It should not exceed five or six words. A precis title neither contains a verb nor forms a question.

IN BRIEF PRECIS SHOULD BE:
  1. It should be brief and concise.
  2. It should be lucid and clear.
  3. It should be written in your own words and the order of ideas should remain the same.
  4. It should be read as a continuous whole.
  5. It should contain only the essential points.
  6. It should be written in the Indirect for of speech and the Active voice.
  7. It should have the same tense throughout, generally, the Past Tense.
  8. It should be written in the third person.
  9. Its length should generally be one-third of the original.
  10. The title should be able to sum up the central idea of the precis.
